Problem

A train is observed to pass two successive kilometre posts while moving along a straight track. It takes 20 s20\,\text{s} to travel from the first post to the second and its speed increases from 15 m/s15\,\text{m/s} to 20 m/s20\,\text{m/s} in this interval. The train continues to accelerate uniformly after the second post and attains a speed of 25 m/s25\,\text{m/s} over the next 15 s15\,\text{s}. (i) Calculate the uniform acceleration of the train between the two kilometre posts. (ii) Determine the distance between the two kilometre posts to the nearest metre. (iii) Find the uniform acceleration of the train after the second post. (iv) Compute the total distance covered by the train in the entire 35 s35\,\text{s} interval described.
