Problem

A particle moves along a straight line with velocity given by v(t)=3t2−12t+9v(t)=3t^{2}-12t+9, where vv is in m s−1\text{m\,s}^{-1} and tt in seconds. (a) Determine the instant(s) when the particle is momentarily at rest. (b) Calculate the instantaneous speed of the particle at t=1 st=1\,\text{s}, t=2 st=2\,\text{s} and t=3 st=3\,\text{s}. (c) Comment briefly on the relation between the signs of v(t)v(t) and the values of speed obtained in part (b).
