Problem

A projectile is launched from level ground with initial speed vv at an angle θ\theta above the horizontal. It lands on level ground at the same height from which it was launched. Ignore air resistance. (a) Write an expression for the horizontal displacement of the projectile in terms of vv, θ\theta, and the total flight time tt. (b) Write an expression for the vertical displacement of the projectile over the entire flight, and use it to obtain a relationship between vv, θ\theta, tt, and gg. (c) Eliminate tt to derive an expression for the horizontal range RR of the projectile in terms of vv, θ\theta, and gg. (d) Determine the value of θ\theta that maximizes RR, and state the maximum possible range in symbolic form. (e) For v=25 m/sv = 25\,\text{m/s}, calculate the maximum horizontal range the projectile can achieve on level ground.
