Problem

In a laboratory experiment a student connects a resistor R=50 ΩR=50\,\Omega, an inductor L=0.20 HL=0.20\,\text{H} and a capacitor C=80 μFC=80\,\mu\text{F} in series to an a.c. source having a peak emf of 100 V100\,\text{V}. (i) Calculate the resonant frequency of the circuit. (ii) Find the peak value of current at resonance. (iii) Determine the peak current when the supply frequency is 1.51.5 times the resonant frequency. (iv) Compare the results of parts (ii) and (iii) and state which current is larger, giving a brief reason based on circuit parameters.
