Problem

A sample containing 1 mol1\,\text{mol} of an ideal gas is taken from state A to state C through two successive processes. • Process A → B: The pressure falls linearly with volume from 3.0×105 Pa3.0\times10^{5}\,\text{Pa} at 0.010 m30.010\,\text{m}^{3} to 1.5×105 Pa1.5\times10^{5}\,\text{Pa} at 0.030 m30.030\,\text{m}^{3}. • Process B → C: The gas then expands isothermally at 300 K from 0.030 m30.030\,\text{m}^{3} to 0.050 m30.050\,\text{m}^{3}. (i) Calculate the work done during process A → B. (ii) Calculate the work done during process B → C. (iii) Determine the total work done in going from state A to state C. (iv) If the change in internal energy during A → B is 400 J and it is zero during B → C, find the total heat absorbed in the complete process A → C.
