Problem

Lines rr and ss are two distinct lines in a plane. A transversal uu intersects them at points PP and QQ respectively. At PP, the interior angle on the left of uu equals ∠a\angle a, and at QQ the interior angle on the right of uu equals ∠b\angle b. It is given that ∠a+∠b=180∘\angle a + \angle b = 180^\circ. (a) Prove that lines rr and ss are parallel. (b) A second transversal vv cuts the same lines rr and ss at points MM and NN respectively. At MM, the alternate interior angle on the left of vv measures (2y+15)∘(2y + 15)^\circ and at NN its alternate interior partner measures (5y−45)∘(5y - 45)^\circ. Find the value of yy. (c) Using the value of yy, calculate the measure of an exterior angle on the upper right side at point NN.
