Problem

A pure inductor of inductance 0.20 H0.20\,\text{H} is connected to a 220 V220\,\text{V} (rms) sinusoidal source operating initially at 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz}. Answer the following questions, showing all steps clearly. (i) Write the mathematical relation for the inductive reactance in terms of frequency. (ii) Calculate the inductive reactance at 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz}. (iii) Determine the rms current through the inductor at this frequency. (iv) The frequency of the same source is increased to 200 Hz200\,\text{Hz} while the supply voltage and inductance remain unchanged. Calculate the new rms current and find the percentage change in the current magnitude compared with that in part (iii). (v) State, with justification, the real power consumed by the inductor at both frequencies.
