Problem

During a laboratory test, the voltage and current waveforms of an AC circuit with angular frequency 314 rad s−1314\,\text{rad}\,\text{s}^{-1} are displayed on a cathode-ray oscilloscope. It is observed that the voltage reaches its first positive maximum 2.0 ms2.0\,\text{ms} before the current reaches its first positive maximum. (a) Determine the phase difference between the voltage and the current, specifying which quantity leads. (b) If the circuit draws an rms voltage of 110 V110\,\text{V} and an rms current of 5 A5\,\text{A}, calculate (i) the power factor and (ii) the average power consumed by the circuit.
