Problem

Let AA be a 3×23 \times 2 matrix and BB a 2×52 \times 5 matrix. A third matrix DD is of order 3×53 \times 5. (i) Decide whether the product ABAB is defined. Give a clear reason and state the order of ABAB. (ii) Examine whether the product BABA is defined. Explain your answer, quoting the necessary condition on orders. (iii) If CC is a 5×45 \times 4 matrix, comment on the possibility of adding the matrices ABAB and CC. Justify your conclusion. (iv) When the matrix DD replaces CC, the sum AB+DAB+D is defined. Find the total number of elements contained in AB+DAB+D.
