Problem

(A) Answer the following questions about the energy terms used to describe the motion of an incompressible, non-viscous fluid flowing steadily through a pipe. (i) Define the terms (a) hydrostatic head and (b) kinetic head for a moving fluid. (ii) A fluid element moves from section 1 to section 2 of a horizontal pipe whose diameter gradually decreases. Explain qualitatively how the hydrostatic head and kinetic head at section 2 compare with those at section 1. (iii) Justify why the sum of hydrostatic head and kinetic head remains the same for the two sections in the absence of energy losses.
