Problem

A drive wheel of radius 0.050 m0.050\,\text{m} pulls a conveyor belt in a packaging facility. Starting from rest at t=0t = 0, the drive wheel undergoes a uniform angular acceleration of 12 rad s−212\,\text{rad}\,\text{s}^{-2} for the first 3.0 s3.0\,\text{s}, after which it continues to rotate at the angular speed it has reached at t=3.0 st = 3.0\,\text{s}. Assume the belt does not slip on the drive wheel, so points on the belt move with the same linear speed as points on the rim of the wheel. (a) Calculate the angular speed of the drive wheel at t=3.0 st = 3.0\,\text{s}. (b) Determine the linear speed of the conveyor belt at the same instant. (c) Find the linear distance that a package resting on the belt travels during the first 3.0 s3.0\,\text{s}. (d) After t=3.0 st = 3.0\,\text{s} the drive wheel maintains the constant angular speed found in part (a). How much additional time is required for the package to move an extra 4.0 m4.0\,\text{m} along the belt?
