Problem

Consider the two straight lines 3x−4y+7=0andkx+8y−5=0,3x-4y+7=0\quad\text{and}\quad kx+8y-5=0, where kk is a real constant. (i) Find the value of kk for which the two lines are parallel. (ii) Using the value obtained in part (i), verify analytically that the lines are indeed parallel. (iii) Find the value of kk for which the two lines are perpendicular. (iv) Using the value obtained in part (iii), verify analytically that the lines are perpendicular.
