Problem

An electric kettle of resistance 98 Ω is connected to 240 V mains using a three-core cable whose earth conductor has a resistance of 2 Ω up to the grounding point. If a fault suddenly connects the live element to the metal body of the kettle, show that the potential of the kettle body with respect to earth does not exceed 5 V.
