Problem

A coil with NN turns and fixed area AA is rotated with a constant angular speed ω\omega about an axis perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field of magnitude BB. At t=0t = 0 the normal to the coil makes an angle 00 with the field. (i) Derive an expression for the instantaneous emf induced in the coil as a function of time. (ii) Show that the root-mean-square (r.m.s.) value of the emf over one complete revolution is εrms=NBAω2\varepsilon_{\text{rms}} = \dfrac{N B A \omega}{\sqrt{2}}. (iii) The coil described above has N=500N = 500 turns and A=4.0×10−3 m2A = 4.0\times10^{-3}\,\text{m}^2. It is connected to a 20 Ω20\,\Omega resistor and rotates in a magnetic field of 0.20 T0.20\,\text{T} at ω=120 rad s−1\omega = 120\,\text{rad}\,\text{s}^{-1}. Calculate the average electrical power dissipated in the resistor.
