Problem

A solenoid of length 0.50 m, wound uniformly with insulated copper wire, carries a steady current from a D.C. source. (i) Define (a) a solenoid and (b) an electromagnet. (ii) State any three factors that govern the strength of the magnetic field inside a current-carrying solenoid. (iii) Describe qualitatively how the pattern and density of magnetic field lines inside the solenoid differ from those outside it, and give a reason for this difference.
