Problem

(Three-dimensional displacement) A vector A⃗\vec A has magnitude 20 N20\,\text{N}. The angle between A⃗\vec A and the positive zz-axis is 40∘40^{\circ}. The projection of A⃗\vec A on the xx–yy plane makes an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} with the positive xx-axis. (i) Find the magnitude AxyA_{xy} of the projection of A⃗\vec A on the xx–yy plane. (ii) Hence calculate the components Ax, Ay, AzA_x,\,A_y,\,A_z of the vector. (iii) Verify explicitly that Ax2+Ay2+Az2A_x^2 + A_y^2 + A_z^2 equals ∣A⃗∣2|\vec A|^2 within reasonable rounding error.
