Problem

Two thin convex lenses L1L_1 and L2L_2 of focal lengths 15 cm15\,\text{cm} and 20 cm20\,\text{cm} respectively are placed coaxially 30 cm30\,\text{cm} apart. An object 2 cm2\,\text{cm} high is kept 25 cm25\,\text{cm} in front of L1L_1 on the common principal axis. (i) Calculate the position and height of the image formed by lens L1L_1 alone. (ii) Treating the image formed by L1L_1 as the object for L2L_2, calculate the position of the final image with respect to L2L_2. (iii) Determine the overall linear magnification produced by the two–lens combination. (iv) State the nature of the final image (real or virtual, erect or inverted, enlarged or diminished).
