Problem

A straight conductor of length 0.40 m0.40\,\text{m} carrying an unknown steady current lies in a uniform magnetic field. The magnetic field makes an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} with the conductor. When the current is switched on, the conductor experiences a magnetic force whose rectangular components are Fx=6 NF_x = 6\,\text{N} and Fy=8 NF_y = 8\,\text{N}. (i) Find the magnitude of the total magnetic force acting on the conductor. (ii) Using this value, calculate the current in the conductor if the magnetic field strength is 0.50 T0.50\,\text{T}.
