Problem
A mini hydro-electric station uses a steady water flow rate of 450 kg s⁻¹ that falls through an effective vertical drop of 60 m. The turbine-generator set operates with an overall efficiency of 80%.
(i) Calculate the mechanical power available in the water just before it strikes the turbine.
(ii) Determine the electrical power delivered by the generator.
(iii) If this power output is maintained uniformly for 24 h, compute the electrical energy supplied to the grid in that period.
