Problem

A function ff is defined by f(x)=3x2+2f(x)=\frac{3}{x^2+2}, x∈Rx\in\mathbb{R}. (1) Sketch the curve y=f(x)y=f(x), clearly indicating any asymptotes with their equations and stating the coordinates of any points of intersection with the axes. (2) The region RR is bounded by the curve y=f(x)y=f(x), the xx-axis and the lines x=0x=0 and x=6x=\sqrt{6}. Let AA be the area of RR. Show that A=2π2A=\frac{\sqrt{2}\pi}{2}. (3) The line x=kx=k divides RR into two regions of equal area. Find the value of kk. (4) Let mm be the gradient of a tangent to the curve y=f(x)y=f(x). Show that m=−6x(x2+2)2m=-\frac{6x}{(x^2+2)^2}. (5) Show that the maximum value of mm is 273223\frac{27}{32}\sqrt{\frac{2}{3}}.
