Problem

A copper wire and an aluminium wire each have length 1 m1\,\text{m} and the same cross-sectional area. The resistivity of copper is 1.7×10−8 Ω m1.7\times10^{-8}\,\Omega\,\text{m}, while that of aluminium is 2.7×10−8 Ω m2.7\times10^{-8}\,\Omega\,\text{m}. Calculate the ratio RAlRCu\dfrac{R_{\text{Al}}}{R_{\text{Cu}}} of their resistances. Which wire would you prefer for long-distance power transmission?
