Problem
A column of mercury of length 10cm is contained in the middle of a horizontal tube of length 1m, closed at both ends. The two equal air columns are at standard atmospheric pressure, equal to 0.76m of mercury. The tube is now turned vertical. By what distance, in cm, will the mercury column be displaced? Assume the temperature remains constant.
