Problem

0.50 kg0.50\,\text{kg} of ice at 0 ∘C0\,^{\circ}\text{C} is supplied with 1.50×105 J1.50\times10^{5}\,\text{J} of heat energy. Take latent heat of fusion of ice =3.34×105 J kg−1=3.34\times10^{5}\,\text{J\,kg}^{-1} and specific heat capacity of water =4.2×103 J kg−1 K−1=4.2\times10^{3}\,\text{J\,kg}^{-1}\,\text{K}^{-1}. (i) Calculate the mass of ice that melts. (ii) State the final condition of the system, giving the masses of ice and water present and the common temperature.
