Problem

Let E(x)=x3+2xk−5x+7E(x)=x^{3}+\dfrac{2}{x^{k}}-5x+7, where kk is an integer. (i) Determine all integral values of kk for which E(x)E(x) is a polynomial in xx. Give justification for each value. (ii) For every permissible value of kk, write the degree of the corresponding polynomial. (iii) Find the value(s) of kk for which the degree of E(x)E(x) becomes 55, and write the resulting polynomial explicitly.
