Problem

A 0∘0^\circ/60∘60^\circ/120∘120^\circ strain rosette bonded to a bridge girder flange, with the 0∘0^\circ gauge along the flange axis x1x_1, reads ε0∘=300 με\varepsilon_{0^\circ}=300\ \mu\varepsilon, ε60∘=100 με\varepsilon_{60^\circ}=100\ \mu\varepsilon, ε120∘=−100 με\varepsilon_{120^\circ}=-100\ \mu\varepsilon (microstrain), all angles measured anticlockwise from x1x_1. Displacement gradients are small. ((a)) Find ε11\varepsilon_{11}, ε22\varepsilon_{22} and ε12\varepsilon_{12}. ((b)) Find the two in-plane principal strains and the angle from the 0∘0^\circ gauge to the axis of the larger one.
