Problem

A solid brass shaft of radius a=10 mma = 10\,\mathrm{mm} and length L=2.0 mL = 2.0\,\mathrm{m} carries a steady torque T=150 N mT = 150\,\mathrm{N\,m}. Take the shear modulus of brass as G=40 GPaG = 40\,\mathrm{GPa}. The shaft is elastic, equal and opposite torques TT are applied at its two ends with nothing else restraining it, and it is long enough that end effects can be ignored. ((a)) Find the maximum shear stress in the shaft. ((b)) Find the total angle of twist between the two ends, in degrees.
