Problem

A steel leaf spring, treated as a cantilever, has rectangular cross-section b=40 mmb = 40\,\mathrm{mm} wide and h=6.0 mmh = 6.0\,\mathrm{mm} thick, free length L=0.50 mL = 0.50\,\mathrm{m}, and E=200 GPaE = 200\,\mathrm{GPa}. A transverse tip load F=20 NF = 20\,\mathrm{N} is applied at the free end. ((a)) Find the tip deflection. ((b)) Find the maximum bending stress, which occurs at the clamped root.
