Problem

A viscoelastic adhesive is well described by the Maxwell model, with shear modulus G=1.5 MPaG = 1.5\,\mathrm{MPa} and relaxation time τM=20 ms\tau_M = 20\,\mathrm{ms}, both read from a stress-relaxation test after a step strain. ((a)) Find the viscosity η\eta of the equivalent dashpot. ((b)) Find the steady shear stress once the transient has died away, if the adhesive is sheared at a constant rate γ˙=50 s−1\dot\gamma = 50\,\mathrm{s^{-1}}.
