Problem

Sodium is body-centred cubic with a=4.291 A˚a=4.291\,\mathrm{\mathring{A}} and molar mass 22.99 g mol−122.99\,\mathrm{g\,mol^{-1}}. Find ((a)) the atomic radius, assuming touching spheres along the body diagonal, ((b)) the packing fraction, and ((c)) the density predicted from this structure. The measured density is 0.971 g cm−30.971\,\mathrm{g\,cm^{-3}}.
