Problem

A study note about aluminium, which is face-centred cubic with a=4.050 A˚a=4.050\,\mathrm{\mathring{A}}, reads: "The conventional cube holds four atoms, so the volume per atom is a3/4a^3/4; since the cube edge is the shortest distance drawn on the diagram, the nearest-neighbour distance is just aa." Which part of this is right and which is wrong? Give the correct volume per atom and the correct nearest-neighbour distance.
