Problem

Caesium chloride's conventional cell (Section 1.4) is itself electrically neutral: a caesium ion at the centre and eight chlorine ions at the corners, each shared among the eight cells that meet there. Taking this cell, centred on the caesium ion, as the first neutral cube of the kind used for rock salt, find its contribution to the running Madelung sum, and say how it compares with the converged value αM=1.7627\alpha_M=1.7627 and with rock salt's first neutral cube, which contributed 1.4561.456 towards αM=1.7476\alpha_M=1.7476.
