Problem

Consider the purely mathematical, dimensionless linear equation y′′+9y=f(x)y'' + 9y = f(x), with homogeneous solutions y1(x)=cos⁡3xy_1(x)=\cos 3x and y2(x)=sin⁡3xy_2(x)=\sin 3x. ((a)) Construct the initial-value Green function G(x,ξ)G(x,\xi) for this operator. ((b)) Verify that GG is continuous at x=ξx=\xi and that ∂G/∂x\partial G/\partial x jumps by the amount the jump condition predicts. ((c)) Evaluate G(x,ξ)G(x,\xi) when x−ξ=π/6x-\xi = \pi/6.
