Problem

Lithium's 2p2p level (l=1l=1) has fine-structure interval Δ/h=10.06 GHz\Delta/h=10.06\ \mathrm{GHz}; take μB/h=13.996 GHz T−1\mu_{\rm B}/h=13.996\ \mathrm{GHz\,T^{-1}}. Its stretched sublevel mj=−32m_j=-\tfrac32 moves as E=13Δ−2μBBE=\tfrac13\Delta-2\mu_{\rm B}B at every field. Using the exact doublet energies, find the values of x=μBB/Δx=\mu_{\rm B}B/\Delta, the fields BB, and the energies E/hE/h at which this line crosses ((a)) the lower level of the mj=+12m_j=+\tfrac12 block; ((b)) the lower level of the mj=−12m_j=-\tfrac12 block.
