Problem

Nitric oxide, 14N16O^{14}\mathrm{N}^{16}\mathrm{O}, has spectroscopic constants ωe=1904.20 cm−1\omega_e = 1904.20\,\mathrm{cm^{-1}} and ωexe=14.075 cm−1\omega_ex_e = 14.075\,\mathrm{cm^{-1}}. Its measured dissociation energy is De=6.61 eVD_e = 6.61\,\mathrm{eV}. ((a)) Use the Morse-oscillator relation between ωexe\omega_ex_e and the well depth to estimate DeD_e in eV. ((b)) State the percentage by which this estimate is too high or too low, taking the measured value as reference. ((c)) Use the Morse estimate of vmax⁡v_{\max} to state how many bound vibrational levels the estimate predicts.
