Problem

The J=1←0J = 1 \leftarrow 0 line of carbon monosulfide, 12C32S^{12}\mathrm{C}^{32}\mathrm{S}, is measured at 48.990955 GHz48.990955\,\mathrm{GHz}. Take atomic masses 12.00000 u12.00000\,\mathrm{u} and 31.97207 u31.97207\,\mathrm{u} and neglect centrifugal distortion. ((a)) Find B0B_0 in cm−1\mathrm{cm^{-1}}. ((b)) Find the effective bond length R0R_0 that this B0B_0 implies. ((c)) The vibration-rotation constant is αe=0.00592 cm−1\alpha_e = 0.00592\,\mathrm{cm^{-1}}. Find BeB_e and the equilibrium bond length ReR_e, and state by how much R0R_0 exceeds ReR_e.
