Problem

Two very large flat parallel sheets are separated by 10.0 mm10.0\,\mathrm{mm} of vacuum. One carries a uniform surface charge density +2.4×10−7 C m−2+2.4\times10^{-7}\,\mathrm{C\,m^{-2}}, the other −2.4×10−7 C m−2-2.4\times10^{-7}\,\mathrm{C\,m^{-2}}. Treat the sheets as infinite planes of charge and ignore edge effects. ((a)) Find the magnitude of the electric field at a point midway between the sheets, 5.0 mm5.0\,\mathrm{mm} from each. ((b)) Find the magnitude of the electric field at a point between the sheets but only 0.50 mm0.50\,\mathrm{mm} from the positive sheet. ((c)) Find the magnitude of the electric field at a point just outside the pair, 2.0 mm2.0\,\mathrm{mm} beyond the negative sheet.
