Problem

Water in a wide shallow channel flows with the steady velocity fieldv=(6.0 x) y^,\mathbf{v} = (6.0\,x)\,\hat{\mathbf{y}},where xx, yy and zz are Cartesian coordinates in metres, the coefficient 6.06.0 is in s−1\mathrm{s^{-1}} and v\mathbf{v} comes out in m s−1\mathrm{m\,s^{-1}}. All the streamlines are straight lines parallel to the yy axis. ((a)) Compute ∇⋅v\nabla\cdot\mathbf{v}. ((b)) Compute ∇×v\nabla\times\mathbf{v}, and state the sense in which a small paddle wheel with its axis along zz turns, seen from the +z+z side.
