Problem

A rod of negligible resistance slides without friction on two horizontal rails of negligible resistance separated by L=0.60 mL = 0.60\,\mathrm{m} and joined at one end by a resistor R=1.5 ΩR = 1.5\,\Omega. A uniform magnetic field B=0.50 TB = 0.50\,\mathrm{T} is perpendicular to the plane of the rails. An external agent pulls the rod along the rails at the constant speed v=3.0 m s−1v = 3.0\,\mathrm{m\,s^{-1}}. ((a)) Find the emf. ((b)) Find the current. ((c)) Find the magnitude of the magnetic force on the current-carrying rod. ((d)) Find the mechanical power the agent supplies, and compare it with the power dissipated in the resistor.
