Problem

A bridge of four ideal diodes is fed from a sinusoidal winding of root-mean-square value 15 V15\,\mathrm{V} at 50 Hz50\,\mathrm{Hz}, and a 4700 μF4700\,\mu\mathrm{F} smoothing capacitor is connected across its output. The load draws a current that may be taken as steady over one ripple period, and the capacitor is recharged to the peak at every crest of the rectified waveform. ((a)) Estimate the peak-to-peak ripple voltage when the load current is 0.80 A0.80\,\mathrm{A}. ((b)) Estimate the ripple when the load current is raised to 1.60 A1.60\,\mathrm{A}, the capacitor unchanged. ((c)) What capacitance would restore the ripple of part (a) at the larger load current?
