Problem

A solenoid valve coil has inductance L=200 mHL = 200\,\mathrm{mH} and winding resistance R=40 ΩR = 40\,\Omega. It is connected across an ideal 12 V12\,\mathrm{V} source through an ideal switch that closes at t=0t = 0, with no current flowing beforehand. ((a)) State the time constant τ\tau of the circuit. ((b)) Find the coil current iLi_L at t=5 mst = 5\,\mathrm{ms}. ((c)) Find the energy stored in the coil once it has reached its final current.
