Problem

A gearbox vibration sensor produces a sinusoidal signal at an actual frequency of 3.4 kHz3.4\,\text{kHz}. It is logged by a 10-bit acquisition system sampling at fs=5.0 kHzf_s = 5.0\,\text{kHz}, with no anti-alias filter fitted. ((a)) Estimate the frequency at which this vibration will appear in the recorded data. ((b)) Estimate the maximum rms aperture jitter the sample-and-hold may have so that the timing error alone does not exceed the ideal full-scale noise floor of the 10-bit converter, for a full-scale sinusoid at the sensor's actual frequency of 3.4 kHz3.4\,\text{kHz}.
