Problem

A 1212-bit converter samples a sensor chain at fs=1 MS s−1f_s = 1\,\mathrm{MS\,s^{-1}}. A local transmitter couples a spurious tone at 2.4 MHz2.4\,\mathrm{MHz} into the chain ahead of the converter, and there is no anti-alias filter. An engineer says: "The spurious tone at 2.4 MHz2.4\,\mathrm{MHz} is far outside anything we care about, and if it shows up as a small wiggle in the record we can always fix it by moving to a 1616-bit converter for better resolution." ((a)) Find the frequency at which the 2.4 MHz2.4\,\mathrm{MHz} tone actually appears in the recorded data. ((b)) Say whether the proposed 1616-bit upgrade removes this problem, giving the reason.
