Problem

A telemetry transmitter for a high-altitude research balloon uses frequency modulation with a peak frequency deviation fdev=8 kHzf_{\rm dev}=8\,\mathrm{kHz} and a modulating tone reaching fm=2 kHzf_m=2\,\mathrm{kHz}. ((a)) Use Carson's rule to estimate the transmitted bandwidth. ((b)) Compare it with the bandwidth that amplitude modulation of the same 2 kHz2\,\mathrm{kHz} audio band would occupy.
