Problem

A wind fleet's output, expressed as a fraction of its rated capacity over a representative year, has been condensed into three levels: zero output for 30%30\% of the hours, half output for 40%40\% of the hours, and full output for the remaining 30%30\% of the hours. The fleet is built at the size (b=1b=1) whose annual mean output equals a flat demand L=10 GWL = 10\,\mathrm{GW}. ((a)) Find the rated capacity of the b=1b=1 fleet. ((b)) The fleet is overbuilt to b=2b=2 (twice this rated capacity), keeping the same duration curve of output fractions. Predict the fraction of the demand met and the fraction of the fleet's output that is curtailed.
