Problem

A garden sprinkler consists of a thin straight tube of length R=0.25 mR = 0.25\,\mathrm{m} lying in a horizontal plane, rotating at constant angular speed Ω=12 rad s−1\Omega = 12\,\mathrm{rad\,s^{-1}} about a vertical axis through one end. Water (ρ=998 kg m−3\rho = 998\,\mathrm{kg\,m^{-3}}) is fed in at the axis at atmospheric pressure with negligible speed relative to the tube, and the flow in the rotating tube is steady relative to the tube. ((a)) With the far end open to the atmosphere, find the speed of the water relative to the tube as it leaves the open end. ((b)) The open end is now blocked so that no water flows. Find the gauge pressure at the blocked end.
