Problem

Water of dynamic viscosity μ=1.0×10−3\mu = 1.0\times10^{-3} Pa s flows along a straight horizontal tube of internal radius a=4.0a = 4.0 mm and length L=2.0L = 2.0 m. The pressure difference between the ends is Δp=50\Delta p = 50 Pa. Assume the flow is steady, smooth and layered, fully developed and incompressible, so that the Hagen-Poiseuille result applies, and that the tube is horizontal so gravity plays no part in the axial balance. ((a)) Find the volume flow rate QQ. ((b)) Find the mean velocity across the cross-section.
