Problem

An intermediate filament has persistence length ξp=1.0 μm\xi_p = 1.0\,\mathrm{\mu m}, measured at T=298 KT = 298\,\mathrm{K} (so kBT=4.11 pN nmk_BT = 4.11\,\mathrm{pN\,nm}). For this estimate, model it as a solid cylindrical rod of radius a=5.0 nma = 5.0\,\mathrm{nm}. ((a)) Find the bending rigidity κ\kappa. ((b)) Find the corresponding Young's modulus EE, using I=πa4/4I = \pi a^4/4 for a solid rod.
