Problem

A single mains conductor carries a 50 Hz50\,\mathrm{Hz} current of amplitude 5.0 A5.0\,\mathrm{A}, with its return conductor run far away, and passes 5.0 cm5.0\,\mathrm{cm} from a type-K thermocouple lead pair whose two conductors enclose a loop of area 4.0 cm24.0\,\mathrm{cm^2}. The loop's plane contains the mains conductor. Treat the mains conductor as long and straight and its field as uniform over the loop. ((a)) Find the amplitude of the magnetic field at the loop. ((b)) Estimate the amplitude of the voltage induced in the loop. ((c)) Express that voltage as a temperature-equivalent amplitude, taking the thermocouple's sensitivity as 41 μV K−141\,\mu\mathrm{V\,K^{-1}}.
