Problem

The noise temperature of a receiver front end is measured with matched hot and cold loads at Thot=300 KT_{\rm hot} = 300\,\mathrm{K} and Tcold=90 KT_{\rm cold} = 90\,\mathrm{K}. The measured power ratio (Y-factor) between the hot and cold measurements is Y=1.80Y = 1.80. ((a)) Find the amplifier's equivalent noise temperature TeT_e. ((b)) Express the result as a noise figure in decibels, referred to the standard 290 K290\,\mathrm{K}.
