Problem

A particle moves with speed v=0.60cv = 0.60c along the xx-axis in frame SS, where cc is the speed of light. ((a)) Write the four-velocity Uμ=(γc,γv,0,0)U^\mu = (\gamma c, \gamma v, 0, 0) in units of cc, and verify UμUμ=−c2U^\mu U_\mu = -c^2 using ημν=diag(−1,1,1,1)\eta_{\mu\nu} = \mathrm{diag}(-1,1,1,1). ((b)) Frame S′S' moves at v′=0.80cv' = 0.80c along the same axis relative to SS. Using the boost U′0=γ′(U0−(v′/c)U1)U'^0 = \gamma'(U^0 - (v'/c)U^1), U′1=γ′(U1−(v′/c)U0)U'^1 = \gamma'(U^1 - (v'/c)U^0) with γ′=(1−v′2/c2)−1/2\gamma' = (1-v'^2/c^2)^{-1/2}, find U′μU'^\mu in units of cc. ((c)) Read off the particle's speed in S′S' from U′μU'^\mu, as a multiple of cc.
